Any Foot Forward!

🌅 Happy Today, Friend!

Two things invariably happen when I go for a walk: I relax greatly, and great ideas start to come to me, unbidden.

Walking for pleasure is a bit paradoxical, because most strolls have you ending up exactly where you  started and you might well ask yourself, what’s the point?

Well, there’s certainly a time and a place for sitting on your backside doing nothing, but I contend that it’s far too easy to do far too much of that when we could be creating wonders or just… doing what we don’t do when we’re sleeping, that is to say: moving.

We’re made to move, there’s no doubt about it, otherwise why would we have those two long spindly things dangling from our waist, hmm?!

It’s also important to move to send signals to our brain and body that we are, indeed, the type of person who moves around in life, who doesn’t stand still, twiddling our thumbs, and who is constantly changing position just in case things look more interesting from over there. And they often do.

And it keeps you fit. And you can wear silly outfits if you like. And get some vitamin D from the sunlight. Or test your best umbrella if it’s here in the Lake District!

But a piece of advice: when those brainwaves do crashing onto the shore of your awareness, jot them down forthwith. They come quickly, but tend to disappear again in an instant, as soon as they are pushed out by another idea surging forth, like the sun peeking through holes in the clouds.

And which is the best foot to put forward? The first one, the next one, any one, as long as you’re advancing and enjoying the myriad little pleasures along the way.

Happy hiking! 🧙
